... :o Whatever.

Anyway - I've been a member here almost 6 months, doing my best to fit in, to be one of the guys, offering strong opinions on things I actually know nothing about - you know, the usual guy stuff. But I've been living a lie. Because I do not own a Heritage guitar, and never have. There. I said it. I'm a fraud.

SO I FINALLY DID IT!

I just got off the phone with Jeff Hale at J. Hale Music in Wisconsin, having finally talked myself into placing an order for a 535 - Dark almond sunburst, Seth Lovers, thick neck - pretty standard stuff, nothing dramatic, but MY stuff! 6-8 weeks. What a relief, at long last, to finally be legit.

Now - are there threads on this forum about how to own a guitar without your wife ever finding out? :o

JMC,

First, congrats on finally getting a Heritage. We've been putting up with you for all this time hoping you'd eventually get one. And now you have!! :o .............. :o Sounds like a stellar deal. Did you go for Jeff's after purchase set up? He's generally pretty adamant that you need his guy to finish setting up the guitars.

Sorry I can't help you with the wife situ. Mine always has a say in my guitar purchases. I don't always listen, tho'! :o

Suddenly you will have a deeper understanding of the magic at 225 Parsons St. ..... as a true HOC'er

It sounds like a well thought out 535... The Dark Almond Sunburst should be delicious...

You will receive much happiness from your new Heritage...... :o

Yep, sure did. That's one of the big selling points with choosing Jeff's shop, frankly.

You ... TELL HER?? Whoa.

And hey - thanks for the congratulations! It's a big deal for me to decide to buy another guitar, so it's great to have someplace to share the excitement! It's a definite thrill.

Except for the waiting... is it 6 weeks yet?

For a guy on his first fishing trip, it looks like you did pretty darn well!!! I hope and expect it will be a keeper, can't wait for the pics!!

Well, I expect you'd know about fishing, living out there in fly-fishin' heaven. I will post pics as soon as I've got them, and you won't hear any stories from me about the one that got away!

That is great news!!!

Thank you, Brent. I realize that in the 20 minutes since you posted, you've bought and sold several Heritages, so this means a lot! :o

Congratulations on your first Heritage! I would tell the wife about the first one and then sneak all of the others that you'll inevitably buy into the house. She'll never know...Ha..Ha.

You just bought yourself a lifetime friend. Once you get that PERSONAL CUSTOM guitar in your hands the glow from your smile will calm the dreaded beast. (AND a dinner out on the town won't hurt either).

Well done my friend!

The trick is to buy her one too. If she is not interested in playing hers, offer to play it as well. Or just do what I and I suspect others do, " no its not new, I have had it for years, just haven't played it for a while".

Alright... custom 535 great choice for our first one.

Their setups are first rate. I know they put a bone nut on my purchase from J Hale and after three years its still smooth as ever. Super dealer.

We what to see some photos when she comes.

Congratulations ...great choice and how can you stand the wait :o ....as far as your wife....well the first 5 or 6 guitars are hard to hide but after that you can start sneaking a new one in here and there...by the time you get to over 30 .....well it takes to long to count!!!!! I hung a few on the wall...hide the cases in a closet and then said some of the cases on the rack were the empties....they weren't :o :o :o

get a rack like the one behind my 535....(I have 2)...and all the cases start running together and it confuses your wife ;) why dear those have been there for years!!!

Miknov had me ship a guitar to Mars Hall last summer. They met up in Chicago in Mike's jam space to complete the deal.

Steiner had to answer to my wife in person at PSP2. She swore we had it planned.

It takes a man.

Yeah I have a custom shop NOS Telecaster . . . I'm baby sitting it (my friend doesn't trust the wife, as she tends to mess the collection when he's gone for his mandatory 4 months a year for his job). Nowhere near does the workmanship come close to a Heritage. It's tone even sounds weaker than my Muddy Waters Tele.

Yeah so you're in a good spot here in the HOC. As for the wife . . . be smart about it. Like my friend, he knows I'm a Gibby guy (He's a Fender guy and doesn't take the time to differentiate Gibby vs Heritage), so he lets me watch over his Fender collection.

Different wives go differently. Honesty is the best policy, as some wives its not the cost or the guitar, its the fact of sneaking behind their back.

Others are bean counters and the money really comes into play. Others are into one up-manship so you buy 2.5 K guitar, she must have 2.5 whatever floats their boat.

Good luck. Hopefully she will see that a guitar is not worth fighting or losing a good marriage over.

Great news, although I never consider some one who appreciates a good guitar a fraud even though he for what ever reason does not have one. will look forward to the pictures.

As for the wife thing, I have the best wife in the world until it comes to her understanding my want for another guitar, she just creates like you have never seen, so I best not affer any advice here!

Keep the guitar at one of your mistresses houses.

Have a couple I keep in their cases and only play them with my back to my wife. Has worked for the past 6 months. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I find it "mildly" ironic that some women will do anything to quell a man's spending habits while others recognize the learning potential and happiness an instrument brings to her mate.

Mrs. High Flying Bird flipped me the "no way in hell" look when Sir Bird showed her that stunning Heritage. I responded with the "you don't understand" look. She caved, immediately, and shot me the "I understand" smile. Some women just know how to keep their man happy.

Congrats!! 535 ASB is an awesome instrument...regret selling mine almost every day.

+1 for Jeff Hale! I've bought two guitars thru him...and I live in Houston! He was great helping me workout my custom 530 and did me solid on a consignment sale. Both hollowbodies showed up playing smooth and setup perfectly for me with the strings I requested.

Will buy again thru J Hale
