tbonesullivan Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 So I had the original hardware put back on my 535, and it really looks a lot better. The supposed "gibson vintage" tailpiece was a POS that used to be gold, with crappy bushings and studs. Also put on a schaller roller for the heck of it. And of course, another Heritage snuck in.
tulk1 Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 Wow! Now there's a pair worth drawing to. I think the Schaller hardware looks cool. And different. Excellent post there, HornMan.
tbonesullivan Posted April 1, 2010 Author Posted April 1, 2010 yeah. also the bushings from the schaller are a bunch longer than the stuff that was in there. probably more secure in some ways. and the tailpiece it came with just looked cheap, as did the studs. now it LOOKS so much better, and I had .09s put on it so full barre chords are a bunch easier now.
High Flying Bird Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 Good looking guitars. I like the Schaller stuff just fine.
Assumer Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 Love the burst on the 150. Reminds me of the finish on the first guitar I fell in love with.
FredZepp Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 Mmmm.. new pics are good. Thanks for posting them.
jmc7581 Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 Beautiful pair! Bring me up to speed - where'd the bridge/tailpiece that you replaced come from originally? Just wondering. It's a little thing, but I like the black speed knobs. I think they look classy with that finish.
tbonesullivan Posted April 1, 2010 Author Posted April 1, 2010 Beautiful pair! Bring me up to speed - where'd the bridge/tailpiece that you replaced come from originally? Just wondering. It's a little thing, but I like the black speed knobs. I think they look classy with that finish. a previous owner (maybe the guy I got it from) replaced the stock schaller big block tailpiece with what was supposedly a "vintage Gibson" tailpiece, and had the original bushings pulled and new ones put in for the new studs. Which is freakin stupid because you can get standard studs threaded for the bushings. Also, the tailpiece that they put on had originally been GOLD, so it didn't match the rest of the hardware at all, and you could see the gold on the front and back, and it just looked bad. Also the bushings were shorter than the schaller, so they were starting to tilt towards the neck. I like the stock schaller tailpiece much better. much more massive and smooth feeling/looking. The roller bridge was really just a whim, but I wanted to take the guitar "back to stock". The only non-stock thing on the guitar may be those speed knobs, but I like them, and they match the pickup rings, so they aren't going anywhere. The H150CM is equipped with the stock hardware it came with, as most guitars that come out of Wolfe are ordered with the nashville style hardware, not the schaller stuff.
