The guy at the shop sold me these when I asked for a nickel string. Found out later they're plated...not what I wanted. Has anyone tried these on a hollow body?

D'Addario Chrome . . . It's the way to go!! I heard some negative things posted here recently about D'Addario Chrome strings. But, I've used them for about 15 years with nothing but good results.

I have them on an archtop and like them for the price. If they lasted 15 years on Patrick's I should get another 14 1/2 years on mine.

Should have clarified my question...sorry! The nickel plated are round wound. I've got the Chrome flats on now & just can't get really comfortable with the flat wound voice. I think I want something with a touch more edge to the tone...I'm worried the nickel plated steel rounds will be too bright...

In my opinion, D'addarios are the brightest nickel wrap I have tried.

Curt Mangan are (in my humble opinion) the perfect nickel wrap string.

For a PURE nickel, (I use them on my 525 & my Kirn Tele) I like the GHS Burnished Pure Nickel strings. They are available at "Just Strings" and they are very affordable as well. Check out this link....

I have tried various strings on my 550 and Sweet 16.. The d'ad's seem to be the ones for me..(flatwound, chrome) ..Evan Gluck (www.newyorkguitarrepair.com) I think it was, who told me that heritage archtops nuts were cut for these strings. or words to that effect..They intonate extremely well on both guitars..also like the D'acquisto flawounds on the Sweet 16, different tone and the wound third is slightly different from the D'Ad's
