I can't say I've used a SP90-2, but the common description is.... HOT.

It's hard to imagine these aren't pretty cool if you take the time to dial them in.. amp settings and guitar set-up.

It may do the "reckless tone" really well that GunslingerTrav is looking for.... everyone hears it a bit different .

I think that you are right in recommending that these may not be the best for a more vintage sound.

You're probably right, for some reason I didn't realize there was a second page to this thread and completely missed the Johnny Thuners stuff.

Personally though, I can't stand them and they are far from THAT P90 tone for me. just way too hot no matter how low I set them or how I set my amp, all two knobs of it :D

And this coming from a guy with a Gibson V that has a 21k humbucker loaded in it, I'm not afraid of high output pickups but something about those Duncan Hot P90s rub me the wrong way.

First, I would like to say thanks for all the replies, comments, info, and opinions. It is greatly welcomed.

Second, I'm not trying to ape the "reckless tone" I mentioned above, after all, half of Thunders' tone came from the way he played regardless of gear. I just want to be in the ballpark and put my own stamp on it.

Again, I say thanks.

I took a look at some of the other pick ups on the market (read reviews, watch youtube clips, tried some out at the guitar shop here in Augusta) and I'm still going to go with the SP90-2s. I'm confindent I will be able to get the sound I'm after with 'em. But thanks for planting the seed to check out some of the others.

I'm having the pick ups I want modified to fit the body.

Does that mean not the SP90-2? I find something I like about a wide variety of pickups... Changes a bit with the guitar it's in and the amp it's going through...

It will have TV Yellow color, Seymour Duncan P90s (I forget off hand which model), my initials inlaid at the 12th fret, a slim tapered neck, chrome hardware, Grover's, ah... I think thats about it. I'm going to have a pickguard put on it too.

sounds sweet..Welcome to the HOC!!
