Redsand Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 Has anybody tried either of these two amps? I need a reliable small watt gigging amp. My price range caps out around $500. Even though the roland wont give me that true tube tone my H535 thirsts for.....its got a built in looper that I could really utulize. However, The class 5 looks pretty darn cool for $399. What do you guys think about these two amps?

What do you guys think about these two amps? I played a Class 5 and it was a terrific amp! Made in the UK to (for whatever that's worth) - it plays more on the side of high gain though, so might want to keep that in mind if you have need for a really clean tone. (sort of that British style crunch) It did get fairly loud, but not really giggable unless you have it mic'd Only thing that kept me from buying one is that I came across a really cool little 7 watt bearpaw before I had fully commited myself to buying it
barrymclark Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 I wouldn't dismiss the Cube so fast. It has been one of my fav's to jam on at music stores for months now. ...but I bet that Marshall sounds NICE!
Thundersteel Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 My price range caps out around $500. Maybe you should take a look at the Vox Night Train: Switchable 7.5/15 watts of tube power! They usually go for $499, but you can find them cheaper if you shop around.
SouthpawGuy Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 I have a Cube 30X, I've also tried the Class 5 locally and the Marshall is way better, the lack of a master volume is a downside for me though, it has to be cranked to make it sing and it is loud for such a small amp. The Orange Tiny Terror combo has a master volume and is really good at low volumes. Blows the pants off the Marshall actually. There is no reverb though, same as the Marshall which is why I haven't sprung for either one, ( pun intended ! ). Check out this vid of the Laney Cub 12. This one is new and is not shipping just yet, it is advertised for £249, about $380, on gak.co.uk http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/86320 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VO8MreEzXMM There is a reverb version for another $50 or so ... http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/86321 and it's seriously on my radar.

Redsand Posted April 9, 2010 Author Posted April 9, 2010 Great little amp! I was just reading up on this little guy....I guess I need to put my wallet in the kitchen drawer and do some amp testings tommorow. Thanks for the feedback Barry
