Newbie here:

I am thinking of buying a H150ASb with p90's from a shop...........

It has some BUCKLE RASH from a customer.....the top side has a nick out of th eclear coat, and the back body contour has about 4 or 5 nicks out of the clear coat.

Also the headstock has a nick on the side of it.

I also noticed the binding over the fret ends is slightly cracked on most of the frets......is this common?????

The reason I am interested is:

This guitar is marked down significantly.......from $24xx.00 to $950.00

I was thinking it should be pretty easy to fix the nicks with some lacquer.

What are your thoughts?????

if there is nothing structurally wrong, and you don't mind the prerelicing, sounds like a deal.

So is the cracking of th ebinding over the fret ends normal?

Posted

That is a great combination and one we don't see every day.

... and it has a body contour... I wonder what the control cavity label says the model is...?

I've seen the tiny binding cracks on a few older guitars..(different brands even) and it hasn't been a problem .

Just check that it seems like it's not an eminent issue, but it's probably not.

The price for that is quite good , particularly since it's something a bit different and cool.

Bottom line.. do you like it?.. I would hope that it seems like an awesome axe and it's hard to resist.

Play it see what you like and what you don't... if it fits you, that should be a sweet one.

Don't worry about the nicks, it's really meant to play some music on.... not just look pretty.

(post a pic if you have one)

Yes, especially if the guitar is several years old. It is caused by temperature changes. The metal frets expand and contract at a different rate than the binding and wood; hence the cracks. It's only cosmetic, anyway.

Now go get that guitar and enjoy it!!

Thanks guys.....

I am selling my baby (Fernandes Lexington Limited) to offset the cost of this (rather than risk divorce).

So I am a bit nervous.

Can you tell me if the guitar likely was Plekked?

Also...I never had a P90 guitar before....my Lexington has SD HB pickups, the bridge is killer, but the neck is muddy. If I kept it, I was thinking of throwing in a P90 in the neck...BUT, the heritage is looking like it wants to follow me home.

Maybe give the dealer a call (or email) and get the serial number ( or the first letter of it ) , that would tell us what year it is.

The p-90 sound (more of a vintage sound ) is quite popular , but there is some variables in different models to some degree.

It may tell what kind of pickups are in it on the label... maybe ask the dealer to send a photo of that or tell you what it says...

It includes the case?

It's a good price , but don't let that stop you from making sure that you get the best deal.

67mike: Welcome to HOC. Just some observations and comments; Firstly; If you're thinking of selling "your baby" to buy this guitar . . .. then the Fernandez Lex is definitely NOT "your baby". You would never even consider selling "your baby" for a guitar that you seem to have doubts about. Secondly; you're over analizing the 150. Just ask yourself this question . . when you pick the guitar up and hold it . . . do you get wood (I ain't talkin' guitar wood here)? Then ask yourself this question . . . when you play it, is your initial reaction "I gotta own this guitar" . . . ? If your answer to both of these questions is "yes", thenstop worrying about binding cracking, minor dings and everything else. The resonance of a 8-1/2 lb LP shaped Heritage 150 with magical P90s is something you'll not get else where. Not to mention the "mojo". On the other hand, if you answer "no" to either of the affore mentioned questions . . . pass on the 150 and keep the Fernandez Lex. If you don't love the 150 . . . . you're gonna regret selling "your baby". Hope that helps to put it into a better perspective for ya.

At that price, you can't lose. Just check for any other hidden 'issues'.

I do recommend playing the 150 through an amp similar to what you will be using. P90's rock, but aren't for everyone.

Let us know what you decide.

Hey mike..If you change your mind let me know, I'll go get it.. B) Seriously, a couple things..My 85 has cracks in the fret end binding, but it sounds awesome..That is nothing to worry about..The binding is solid..Secondly..P-90's RULE!!! GET The FREAKIN GUITAR!! Ahem..My 2 cents..Oh, and Welcome to the cult..(I mean club)..

Sorry If I was a bit strong on my last post..Think I got Spring Fever!! B)

It's a 2008 I think?

Posted
The serial number is:

Y14903

What does that mean????

It was the 3rd guitar made on the 216th day of 2008

Whoops... too slow...

So, since this guitar is a 2008 model.

I assume it has been Plekk'd

Also I assume it has Lollar P90's.

I assume both of the above are very good things????????

I'd guess Lollars also... but not sure about plekk'd....

Dings and nicks just shouldn't matter, and a bit if cracked binding won't affect the guitar. Some guitars just don't stay pristine for ever, but look at the Book "The Beauty of The Burst" and you will see incredible guitars with dings and nicks, and some how they add something to the guitar. It doesn't sound like it's been abused, and a good guitar tech' can do the frets very nicely. Hope you decide what's best for you, but P90's are fantastic, I have had a les paul with them and they cook... Ask Kuz what he thinks about them.......
