Hfan Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 Hello all, Here's my latest addition, found it local. I posted quite a bit in the for sale / bay section here earlier in the week. Pretty much an impulse buy. The pictures don't show all the dings or the buckle rash. She has been played, but IMHO, she is a player. I pulled the pickups, they appear to be regular Schallers. I need to pull the bridge pup again, still appears to be sitting a little slanted on one side. One of the bridge pup screw holes was stripped, the screws are really short, I'll try to find a source for a slightly longer screw and drill a deeper pilot hole, or just do all 4. If anybody knows where to find them please let me know. There is a good sized ding on the back of the neck (pictures attached) which I find slightly annoying but it doesen't affect playability. Could a good luthier fill this in? I have another older guitar with something similar and I have lived with it. Here is a picture of the back, the buckle rash doesn't really show in the picture. neck dings Found another reason I like my 157. It matches my buddy (that isn't a stain on the front, just a reflection, not much of a photographer I'm afraid): Thanks for any advise. Pete
mars_hall Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 Absolutely love it. When you decide to cast it away, contact me.
FredZepp Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 Sweet guitar... ( and it looks like a happy dog ) Trans Black is a killer finish and yours is no exception. Very nice Heritage there. I'd give it a bit to see if you really want to fool with doing anything to the ding on the neck..... but , of course, it can be done.
SouthpawGuy Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 Great shot ! Congrats. btw Schallers usually use 4 screws per pickup, maybe that's why the bridge pickup is tilting ? btw2 ... have you checked the control plate for the model name ? The 157 Classic has / had Duncan 59s.
smurph1 Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 sweet Guitar!! and a Sweet dog too..i love Labs..
mark555 Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 Great picture of the guitar and dog, your dog looks full of character and personality. I would leave the ding alone on the back of the neck if it does not affect playability. Some guitars just have a bit of wear and tear, and sooner or later the dings etc just add to the over all guitar, once they are there, unless they are really bad, I would leave as is. But as always, it is your guitar and beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
ThinLizzy Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 Beautiful guitar and dog! I'd clean it, restring it and play the heck out of it, but leave the dings alone.
mars_hall Posted April 16, 2010 Posted April 16, 2010 sweet Guitar!! and a Sweet dog too..i love Labs.. Tastes just like chicken!

The 157 Classic has / had Duncan 59s. I pulled the pups and they had the "Schaller" logo engraved in the bottom. Had the control cover off once and I'm pretty sure it just said H157 (no Custom).

MusicHyde Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 Really amazing top ! And your buddy looks like a playa !
barrymclark Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 Wait, do you mean that, for instance, the 'low E' sideof the pickup is lower than the 'high E' side and you can't adjust it up? If so, and the stripped screw side is the one you can't get to adjust, then there is the problem. You may have to tap that hole and go to Home Depot or something for a slightly larger screw. That is certainly cheaper than getting a new pickup.
