koula901 Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 I'm planning for my next Heritage (or may change my current order). I will use Fralin noiseless P 90s, and like the 137 DC, but am wondering how these would sound on a 150 w/maple cap. My guess is that the maple would add brightness to the sound. does any one here have experience w/the difference? Please describe. Thanks.

Thanks. maple tops = brighter most of the time no maple top = darker most of the time This tone effect can be "countered" by varying winds, higher wind p-90's will be darker sounding and lower winds are brighter I personally dig the maple tops with hotter wound P 9O's myself, great sounds for sure It's real easy to get a non maple topped guitar really dark sounding with mid to hotter wound P90's plexi
smurph1 Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 I've never heard a H-150 with P-90's but I bet they kick A##!! My H-137 with Lollars is Awesome..Especially when you want that Chimey clean tone..It excels!! Nice bitey dirty tone too..
Kuz Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 Honestly, might be the best tone I own!!!!!! BTW, Lollar P-90s CAN'T BE BEAT FOR TONE, IMHO!!!!
golferwave Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 Tom Short just shipped me a set of Sweet 90's (Marc Ford wind) pickups today. We'll see if they give the Lollars a run for the money.

rooster Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 FWIW, one of my 150s has the Bill Lawrence L-495s from Bill and Becky. They're a noise-free P90 voiced pickup in a humbucking sized shell, and they sound fantastic. Then again, all the pickups I've gotten from them do. rooster.
koula901 Posted May 17, 2010 Author Posted May 17, 2010 Thanks everyone, for your input. I'll let you know what I end up with, and, of course, post pics! : )

Rooster, Would that be the goldtop on their website? If it is, you should post a photo of it here. I put L495s on a PRS I had and my strat has Bill Lawrence pickups too, they are fantastic and priced right.
