mboon1985 Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 hey gang, this is my first heritage, an H157. i bought it as a gigging guitar here locally (seattle) for what i though was super, super cheap given its similarities to lp custom. its got some scrapes and shabby repainting on the back and some scratches on the front and the gold is all worn but i think it looks pretty cool. the pictures don't do the wear justice because i have a crummy camera and live in a dark hole studio apartment. i believe the serial dates it to 89? (F27702) is this correct? the pickups are being repotted because the covers were making it feed back. i had for a while just played it sans covers but i like the look of them too much. ive got a gibby gold top, a firebird vii, a reissue SG jr from 90 and i have to say i like this thing a heck of a lot more. thoughts? things i should know?
chico Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 welcome and get ready to become addicted. looks like a nice player you have there, with some tweaks should be great. F is '89 H157, tux. white binding, how much does it weigh?
zookroo1 Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 I have a feeling you'll be making sweet music with that baby!
mboon1985 Posted May 18, 2010 Author Posted May 18, 2010 no idea what it weighs in at, chico. it doesn't register on my human-scale. its about the same as my 08 gibby traditional.
Assumer Posted May 22, 2010 Posted May 22, 2010 great looking guitar. I have always loved the black version of this guitar.
Millennium Maestro Posted May 22, 2010 Posted May 22, 2010 Great guitar, now you have a taste of the dark side and you fingers and ears will end up making that definitive desision that the gibson name on that funny looking headstock are not really important at all... Then the GAS begins, more heritages in you stable and probably one less 08 gibby there too!! This 157 model is a personal fav of mine.
FredZepp Posted May 22, 2010 Posted May 22, 2010 That is a great Heritage to start out with... It looks a lot like my 157. Mine is a '94. This guitar will continue to impress you .. and anyone that you show it to... It's the real deal from Parsons St in Kalamazoo.. Congrats on the great guitar.
ronalr Posted May 22, 2010 Posted May 22, 2010 Welcome to the HOC and congratulations on a great guitar...I think you will really bond with it...I have a 1990 157 just like yours and really enjoy it....
pegleg32 Posted May 22, 2010 Posted May 22, 2010 Welcome to the HOC mboon, when you get a chance, post some clips. Would love to see and/or hear you play that good old Heritage!!!
shook494 Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 157's are the bomb!! Nice snag. She looks like a nice player.
mark555 Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 Congratulations on your 157, and a big welcome to the best and most pleasant forum on the net, this is a nice place to hang out. Here's hoping to read more of you posts.... You did ask about things you should know, there are many members who have replaced the bridge and stop piece on their guitars for a more traditional look, some feel that the factory set up is a tone sucker, I myself changed the bridge and stop piece on my 555, but many others like the hardware as it is - it's subjective. Your guitar looks the business though, great snag, would you mind me asking how much it was? I am always interested to learn about USA Prices in comparison to England.
tulk1 Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 Black ones are always cool. Don't forget the nitro-neutral guitar stand. It may be a player, but you don't want to put marks on it from a stand!
jmac Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 Welcome, I'm new to the forum but I have to say Heritages are addicting. I bought a second one almost immediately.
smurph1 Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 Welcome to the cult..I mean club..Play the living daylights out of that beauty!!
