I found some cream and gold Kluson 'tulip' tuners online today and bought them. I'll be fitting those as soon as they arrive mid-week. Don't like Rotamatics much, they look too clunky on small guitars like the 170 and too 'seventies' on 535s. They look OK on my 516 but that has a bigger headstock.

No, I haven't played an HRW axe. ... I was expecting them to be a bit hotter, I've heard some mention that. So it is surprising that it doesn't drive the front end of your amp more.

... but with any pickup that is different from the norm, there is a bit of dialing it in to do.

 

Do you think that there needs to be adjusted the pole pieces or height..? That makes a big difference in my experience with pickups..

 

They're a bit hotter than the 535s Schallers, especially the neck, but not what I'd call 'hot'.

 

And yes, you're right - I need to do a bit of homework here. All my guitars are two volume, two tone and I need to play around to find the sounds I want. I'll adjust pickup/polepiece heights too - I normally leave them quite low in the rings and maybe this isn't the right thing for these.
