Is it just me?

Not to disagree with you but two of those were custom orders with necks to my specs: the Almond Burst 535 and the Millennium Ltd. Same specs, two different necks.

If they were custom orders, and you gave them exact measurements, then they must have gotten them wrong.

When I have given them measurements at the 1st fret neck width and 12th fret neck width, they have nailed it perfect.

Same width/depth - different shape. The Millennium they nailed - beautiful C shape. The 535 just had way to much meat on the shoulders, a D or U shape. Felt like a 2x4 up the neck.

Not to rain on anyones parade, but in my case they make some of the most inconsitent necks on the planet - The Heritages I have owned:

535 Almond Burst - large D shape. Too broad of shoulders for me, made the neck feel wider than it was. Felt VERY WIDE up above the 7th fret or so.

535 Antique Natural - slim C shape. Nice shape, but slimmer than I like, even with my small hands.

Millenium Ltd. - Nice medium C. This was a great neck - loved it. Just didn't bond with the geetar for some reason.

535 Dark Almond Burst - Another nice medium C shape. Very nice neck.

535 Anitique Natural - Slim D shape. I swear this was wider than 1 11/16" at the nut, more like 1 23/32" or somesuch.

137 - Medium broad shouldered C or slim shoulderd D. Definitely more meat on the shoulders than the Millenium or Dark AB 535, but not as much as the AB 535.

All of mine have been symetrical. I have played, and like assymetrical necks, just haven't played a Heritage with one.

It would be interesting to know how old your guitars are. Several years ago the Heritage necks were extremely thin for my liking. I have had several necks made to my dimensions and they came out perfect every time. The decision to make the necks thicker just occurred last fall. Marv made the decision to make the necks .860 thick at the first fret and .960 thick at the 12th fret. They may vary by a few thousandths but all the guitars that I have gotten recently seem to be very consistant. I suggest that you do what I have been thinking of and that is to sell my older Heritage guitars and buy new ones. This would also help to boost production up a little bit! You just can't beat the new necks!

I just got done playing and I wan't to change my mind.. today my favorite neck is a med thin d shape on my stat dlx. I'm liking the 12" radius better than the 14 in the robin.. who knows what will win tomorrow.

I played the 535 a lot today but also the 357....huge differences between those necks, but yet, doable :D

I must not be very picky on neck shapes...

All of my Heritages have a different shape and make me play differently.

And the guitars just have a personality.. a feel...

But I couldn't say that one is better... when I pick them up... they are awesome, every one.

My '92 H150 ASB has a really thin neck, I love it.

The '00 H150 Vsb is a nice med C ... great balance ...

And the 140 is chunky , like playing an old LP Special.

the 157 is in between the 150's

And the Centurion is substantial without being really thick.

I'm easy... I like 'em all... :D

Never done a custom order so can't speak to that. Just know that every Heritage I've owned so far has had a wonderfully shaped neck. This is obviously subject to each players personal preference so as always YMMV.

Interestingly enough, when I first got my 525 I thought the neck was to fat. I loved the tone of the guitar so much though that I couldn't stop playing it. One day I picked it up and realized the neck felt just right!

I've gotta chime in with fredzepp hear on this one. I've got 8 Heritage made guitars. 2 Heritage D'Angelicos . . . a New Yorker and an Excel . . . 2 Super Eagles . . . 2 Golden Eagles . . and H555 and a most recently acquired H535. Each has a different neck & "feel". Some are 3 piece (the 2 D'As and the H555) . . . some are 5 piece (the 2 Golden Eagles and the 2 Super Eagles) and the H535 is a 1 piece mahogany neck. Each has it's own "character" and I wouldn't change that for the world. However, it wasn't until I read this post that I came to realize why my 1994 Golden Eagle, made for me & to my specs is the most comfortable and my favorite. I read here that Marv takes slightly more of the "cheekyness" out of the treble side of the neck than the bass side. When I read that I checked all my necks. Marv must have made the neck on my 1994 GE. I didn't notice until I checked, but there is an ever so slight slimmer taper to the treble side. I love it!!!

i'll go with fred zepp on this one, i can play classical acoustic necks, heritage / gibson, g&l necks, to the vintage '52 fender pencil necks / 7 in radius taylor necks . . . no problem . . .

I prefer the 12 in heritage neck or the 9.5 g&L fender standard . . . my 150 is just . . .

*awesome* ^o^

or does Heritage make the best necks on the planet?! Seriously, there is some kind of mojo going on here!

I was always a slim neck kind of guy until I got my 575. It was the first beefy neck that I bonded with. Plenty of beef for tone but so easy to play!

Than along came my 525. At first I found it a little too chunky but now it fits like a well worn glove. Same goes with my new Groovemaster.

I still find beefier necks on other guitars to be challenging to play but for some reason, Heritage necks play like butter no matter how thick.

It's magic I tell ya'! B)

Absofreakinlutely! Exact same story here . . . in fact, the exact same 575! B)

Before, I always wanted the slim "fast" neck. Then I pulled out the 575 and whoa! It feels so . . . right! Chunky for sure, but just . . . right! I've got gigantic spider-hands, and I feel like the bigger neck just fits my hands better, even though other chunky necks have never felt comfortable. I don't know what the deal is or why this neck is my new favorite in spite of the fact that other necks with similar dimensions have felt all wrong. That's for the engineering geeks to figure out! ;)
