Jazzerous Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 I f you want to put P-90's in a 535 that came with humbuckers do they make one that will fit without modding the guitar ? I have seen the dogeared ones and thought they might drop right in but maybe not???
Spectrum13 Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 I f you want to put P-90's in a 535 that came with humbuckers do they make one that will fit without modding the guitar ? I have seen the dogeared ones and thought they might drop right in but maybe not??? Yes, but you would need the adaptor gaskets like Lollar makes and need to drill four screw holes. The neck pups need to be low profile plus you may need a set of shims to set your height.
nachogrande Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 What about the Fatcats? Linkage Lollar and Fralin also wound a special HB size p90s such as Phat Cats.
GuitArtMan Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 Lindy Fralin Split Single P92s. P90 tone without the hum.
Jazzerous Posted May 26, 2010 Author Posted May 26, 2010 How would you compare the Phat Cat's to Seth Lovers? Are there going to be a big difference between the two?
Thundersteel Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 Phat Cats are single coil pups in a humbucker-sized wrap. The sound, to me anyway, isn't a huge difference, but the difference is definately there.
SouthpawGuy Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 When I got the 535 in sunset burst I was going to go the same route, and was considering the Phat Cats and Fralin P-92s, however I opted for a set of SD P-Rails with the triple shot switching built into the pickup mounting rings. I can get 4 different sounds from each pickup and can also combine them in any combination. Pics .. before .... after ... Each pickup has series humbucker / parallel humbucker / P-90 and single coil ( rail) mode. As all of the switching is built into the mounting rings there was no extra drilling or use of push pulls or mini switches required.
barrymclark Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 I was wondering how long before the Prails came in! haha.
t0aj15 Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 SPGuy, how bout some close-ups of the mounting ring switching?
tulk1 Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 Phat Cat might be at the treble side a bit. Mine aren't trebly at all. Very ballsy, nearly humbucker in nature. With a bit more definition in the notes, clean and OD'd.
GuitArtMan Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 Fralin split single P92s. P90 tone, zero hum, full humbucker size. Frickin' great pickups.
Gitfiddler Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 Another vote for SD Phat Cats in a 535! Great tones and zero hum...and they look pretty cool too.
SouthpawGuy Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 SPGuy, how bout some close-ups of the mounting ring switching? Here's a shot, (pun intended ), on the Duncan site .... http://www.seymourduncan.com/products/elec...riple_shot_swi/ The mini switches are clearer on the cream ring.

With a bit more definition in the notes, clean and OD'd Thanks for sharing tulk. I am not very experienced with hollow nor semi-hollow bodies. However, I was told by a Seymour Duncan beta tester friend that Phat Cats might show a little bit treble behavior than Antiquity or Seth Lover sets. But that was an information for a full hollow body guitar. Maybe the middle block in 535 provides those great thick tones.
smurph1 Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 Man!! So many options it makes my head spin!! Good Luck..May you get tone to the bone!!
GuitArtMan Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 Another vote for SD Phat Cats in a 535! Great tones and zero hum...and they look pretty cool too. Are Phat Cats hum canceling? I thought they were a true P90 (hum and all) in a humbucker sized cover.

I dig these. If they had come in white, I would have used them on my current build.

barrymclark Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 Mine hum in neck or bridge. Reverse wound for cancelling inbetween. Sheilding the piss out of them will kill a lot of that. Stupid pick up everything single coils. Why do they have to sound so good? haha.
ledzef Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 BareKnuckle makes one called the Mississippi Queen P-90 that fits into a humbucker size slot. Leslie West for days.

I see in the after pics you also switched out the Schaller hardware.
