Guest mgoetting Posted May 27, 2010 Posted May 27, 2010 How much difference is there? Does the weight make much difference in real world playing (not on the couch)?
FredZepp Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 I think that there is a tendency for 157s to be slightly heavier than most 150s, but my 157 is just over 9 lbs.. so not too bad. Certainly others here have much heavier 157's. Both of my 150's are probably close to 9 lbs also. The 140 , mine is a first edition, is definitely a bit lighter. While they sound and feel a bit different.. there are other factors also... Mine have different neck carves and pickups which change the feel and sound also. There is a certain low end that you may get a bit more of with a heavier solid body, but there might be some that desire the resonance of a lighter body. And my back appreciates the lighter weights , for sure . And I've never had any complaints about the tone. My 140 has some hot pickups and it is a blast to play....
peteraltongreen Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 I just weighed my C140CM,and it's 8 pounds.I remember in 1963 getting a pre owned '59 Les Paul Custom ( honest ) and thinking how heavy it was.As I also play Bass guitar, and have a couple of Fender alike custom made, solid wood bodied models, they weigh in at between 12 & 14 pounds.Very heavy !. The bulk provides a fantastic sustain, but a sore shoulder.I use a 4 " leather strap with air support pads.I generally can't do much longer that a hour on these. The C140,I could go out shopping wearing it.No Problem ! If your guitar is heavy, get a wide strap for starters. Peter Alton Green
tbonesullivan Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 my H150CM is around 11 lbs. BEAST!! The H150 and H157 should weigh about the same. the 140 should be less due to the thinner body.
Bombassa Posted May 29, 2010 Posted May 29, 2010 my H150CM is around 11 lbs. BEAST!! The H150 and H157 should weigh about the same. the 140 should be less due to the thinner body. Should, but not for sure. My H150 with P90s weighs 9 lbs and my H140 is just 0.33 lbs lighter. That was a little surprice as I expected a much bigger difference. Honestly I don't know witch guitar is a little heavy or a little light.
smurph1 Posted May 29, 2010 Posted May 29, 2010 I love my 140..I can play it for hours standing up, with very little fatigue..Never owned a 150 so I can't speak to that, but I've had people say the 140 sounds "Just like a Les Paul"..LOL.. Gee I wonder why that is..
skydog52 Posted May 30, 2010 Posted May 30, 2010 My 157 weighs in right at 9 lbs. Heavy guitar. Great tone!
TalismanRich Posted May 30, 2010 Posted May 30, 2010 My 157 is right at 9.5 lbs and pains me to stand for any length of time. I got a 140 ('87) and its probably closer to 8 lbs, although I haven't weighed it accurately. It feels more like my Milli than the 157. I don't think I could do more than 15 minutes with some of those 11 lbs beasties!
