Guest mgoetting Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 2009 with '59s. I like the neck. It's...well...fat. It's not quite a late '50s fat but plumper than any of the recent Heritages I've seen. Probably a C- or D+ (like that makes sense). It's a keeper!
ronalr Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 Really nice.....how does she sound...I have a 1990 157 in black and it is sweet.....congratulations
Millennium Maestro Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 Congrats... Mine all had thin necks, hows the weight? Enjoy!
pushover Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 Congrats on the new toy... Though I must admit that whenever someone posts a pix of a 157 black beauty I have to go check and make sure mine is where I left it. Give us a tone report when you have a chance to put her through her paces. Mine also has the 59's and I think they're the right match for the 157 (though that obviously depends on all sorts of personal preferences).
FredZepp Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 Congrats on the new Heritage, mgoetting ! That seems like an appropriate addition to your Heritage collection. These 157's just radiate quality... something about them.
Guest mgoetting Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 Congrats... Mine all had thin necks, hows the weight? Enjoy! The weight isn't bad. Of course I'm sitting. I haven't weighed it, but it's definitely the heaviest in my stable. I'm ok with the heft of a LP for an hour or so. I just have to remember not to slouch- that's what makes me sore after a while. Even when it becomes uncomfortable, it's not so bad.

This guitar was at the 2009 NAMM. I got it from someone who bought it at the show. It surprises me that Heritage brought a thicker necked guitar to NAMM. It seems like thin is in. Again, this is still thinner than the early LPs but slightly thicker than average. And BETTER IMHO.
Steiner Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 All you'll need is the limousine to be fully prepared for a formal night out. Nice Guitar!
big bob Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 Are you sure your friend didn't steal that from BB King...

Now the trend with most (if not all) guitar companies is a fatter thicker neck. It really does increase the tone (but we tone is always subjective) and it certainly increase the stability of the neck. I have always liked big huge baseball bat necks. Yea, some say they slow your playing down, but I have not heard of anyone getting hand cramps from a wide fat neck!!!!

And heavy strings. That warped my perspective on everything since. I'll never complain. I have a lot of respect for the early guitarists.

Guest mgoetting Posted May 29, 2010 Posted May 29, 2010 Set it up for 10-46s. Sounds as good as I had hoped plugged in. Long sustain. The pups are not as hot as HRWs but they work just fine. No need to make any change.

I agree..My hands are pretty big, but a thin neck just doesn't do it for me..with the possible exception of a nice maple board Tele..
