Steiner Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 First and foremost, the seller was a top notch guy. He did everything possible to get the guitar in my hands ASAP and I really appreciate it. - Thanks BrentRocks! When I got the guitar it was absolute cherry, as new. I played it without an amp and could tell it was alive and resonate. Ah! A Heritage... I plugged it in and wasn't enthralled. It sounded like the guitar had a head-cold; it wasn't as articulate as it should be. The notes within chords didn't stand out. At the behest of Thundersteel's sale thread and Kuz's link within, I ordered my first set of controls. Akin to a new set of strings on a good acoustic, they awoke this giant! I've got to tell you TS & Kuz, I'm pickled tink. I played her for hours yesterday and just kept smiling; that's what Daddy likes! You gotta love a support group like the HOC! Without further adue, your porn...
Dick Seacup Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 Great looking guitar; man that's a fantastic finish.
FredZepp Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 Fantastic guitar...!!!!! A stunning Heritage... ...When you say changing the controls... it was changing the pots, cap, and 50's wiring? Same pickups?
big bob Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 Nice addition, did you do the swap yourself young squire. are you starting to get a little Mad... That is one special git, make sure you hold on to that one..
Steiner Posted June 5, 2010 Author Posted June 5, 2010 Fantastic guitar...!!!!! A stunning Heritage... ...When you say changing the controls... it was changing the pots, cap, and 50's wiring? Same pickups? Thank you gentlemen. I didn't make it (I wish I could!) but she's here to be enjoyed. By controls I do, precisely, mean pots and caps with "vintage" wiring. I want to throw in the HRWs I bought from Kenny but, as yet, cannot locate Schaller rings contoured for the 150. The difference is not great but alleviates that "wonder what's missing" element when practicing. The old wiring reminded me of when I used to touch adjacent strings and couldn't get the instrument to sing. She's singing now!!!
yoslate Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 Lovely, Gregg!! Corngrats!!! I think PSPIII is shaping up to be quite the orgy of really, really fine 150's!
pegleg32 Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 OOOOOOHHHH! Steiner, I love the color on that guitar, and I'm glad to hear that it now sounds as good as it looks!!! I expect that one is a keeper.
brentrocks Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 Gregg...you are luck i was broke that day....i wanted that one bad...LOL...JK that is a great pic...and it looks even better in person!!! I'm sure we will be seeing that one on Aug 6th.
Gitfiddler Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 Steiner~ Man, I absolutley love that finish, and the curl is awsome!! It looks almost like the 25th Anniversary models. Congratulations. Play it in good health.
tulk1 Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 Now THAT is a close up, Greg. Almost life size. Hey, bring it up to the PSP. Bet they'd put some surrounds on it whilst we tour. And you don't get the switch tip until you put the HRWs in it.
big bob Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 I keep coming back to look at that stunning top. Wow! I guess that's what they meen by deep dish.
FredZepp Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 I keep coming back to look at that stunning top. Wow! I guess that's what they meen by deep dish. And I bet the next pic will be awesome too....
Steiner Posted June 6, 2010 Author Posted June 6, 2010 I've been overjoyed with every Heritage I've owned. This one had a few tricks up its sleeve. First, the control cavity had a secret message... I asked BrentRocks to ask Chris (the seller) to sign the decal in the cavity cover; what a guy! Yes it's a LW 150. That's Mrs. Steiner with the flashlight. Here's the RS Guitar Works assembly as delivered. Yes BigBob, I did solder the other elements myself. I thought of you as I rubbed my hands together and chanted Muahahahaha... You know... It feels pretty good to contemplate world domination Muahahahaha... To top it off, the requisite mark of excellence! I bought this because I really wanted to try a LW / Chambered 150. Sorry, she's a keeper, not a flipper. I promise to bring her back to Kazoo in August.
skydog52 Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 All I can say is Wow. In your hands and fingers I bet she really sings. Congrats. Paul
conorb Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 Wow, what a stunner. You've got a real keeper there. Congratulations!!!! conorb
FredZepp Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 The additional pics show this to be an exceptional instrument. The new components look to be excellent quality and over all, this one is quite special... I even like the label.
brentrocks Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 Hey Greg...you notice a big diff in the vintage harness?
slider313 Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 Thank you gentlemen. Nice! Great looking top. I'll bet if you put an ohm meter to the old pots, they'll read around 300K. I'm not sure why anyone would use a 300K pot with humbuckers, but that's what was in my 150. After installing RS 500K Superpots for the volume and CTS 500K tonepots, the guitar "opened up".
