Guest mgoetting Posted June 21, 2010 Posted June 21, 2010 One of my TOM bridges has wedge shaped saddle inserts. Another has these roller type inserts. Why the difference? I got another Heritage with a TOM that has aftermarket plastic inserts. The package they came in claims longer string life. Comments?

I have had Schaller and the metal wedge shaped "Nashville style" bridges and don't see any difference. I can't speak of the plastic type but I think I would be getting rid of them as soon as I could. I would want metal meeting my strings.

GuitArtMan Posted June 21, 2010 Posted June 21, 2010 I agree with the bird man but gotta add that I personally prefer the Nashville style bride to the roller bridge. I was always moving the damn rollers and messing up the string spacing, and frankly they look big and bulky and fugly to my eyes.
smurph1 Posted June 21, 2010 Posted June 21, 2010 I wonder if the plastic inserts he speaks of are actually graphite..Are they black?
Guest mgoetting Posted June 21, 2010 Posted June 21, 2010 I wonder if the plastic inserts he speaks of are actually graphite..Are they black? They are black! Graphite should be a good thing, but the D string still always hangs then pops when tuning. Of course maybe it's the nut. Why are some saddle inserts round and some wedges with nothces?
High Flying Bird Posted June 21, 2010 Posted June 21, 2010 Why are some saddle inserts round and some wedges with nothces? Just different design mindsets. You would think the round inserts would be better for a Bigsby equiped guitar but I have found no difference in them either. I think the Nashville bridges look better too but not enough better to cause me to change them out.

If they are indeed graphite that is awesome..I had a Gibby LP special that I put a Tone Pros bridge on with graphite saddles..It stayed in tune great and had sustain for days..My 2 Cents..
