Guest mgoetting Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 It seems like the H137 should cost quite a bit less than the H140. Isn't it simpler to make?
barrymclark Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 It seems like the H137 should cost quite a bit less than the H140. Isn't it simpler to make? The difference in material is negligible. The only place that would be 'simpler' is lack of a carved top on the 137. The same work has to go into the rest of the body, the neck, fretboard, headstock, componentry, frets, finish. I wouldn't expect to see a meaningful drop off unless the quality of make drops off too.

Is the binding time consuming?
barrymclark Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 Is the binding time consuming? More time than if not but there is also the finishing necessary on the edges of the slab guitar too that wouldn't be done if bound. Six in one hand, half a dozen in the other. Multiply binding can be pretty involved though.

The binding is more work... but it isn't THAT much more work. More lost skin. haha.

H-150...$2990 These are only list prices.. That seems like a reasonable spread between the two. Now I'm surprised the H-150 is almost the same as the H-140. Where did you get the price list?

FredZepp Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 Doesn't the 140 have a maple top? Yes , curly maple also. the 140 is a slightly thinner body and dots instead of traps..
High Flying Bird Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 Yes , curly maple also. the 140 is a slightly thinner body and dots instead of traps.. I was comparing to the 137 which doesn't have the cap.
FredZepp Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 I was comparing to the 137 which doesn't have the cap. Oh... nevermind.. but yeah.. the 140 has a curly maple top.
High Flying Bird Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 I was comparing to the 137 which doesn't have the cap. I misspoke. All 137s except Brent's custom DC..........

Where did you get the price list? Shouldn't be too surprising. They are almost identical. The difference being about a half inch of mahogany and some trap inlays.
