schundog Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 I've not been able to determine what the "CM" means after H-150. Probably somthing very simple, I know!! Also, other than a thinner (1/2 inch or so?) body on the 140, no binding on the neck, and dots vs traps on the 140, what are the differences between the two? I would assume the 140 weighs less, but are there any noticable sonic differences? Thanks, guys!!
schundog Posted June 24, 2010 Author Posted June 24, 2010 Thanks, Thundersteel. You would think I would have seen that designation somewhere, as much as I've been reading about and tring to learn about Heritage guitars!
FredZepp Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 There are 2 versions of the H-140... the current (2nd edition) or the original (1st edition). The 2nd edition looks just like a 150.. just with a slightly thinner body and usually dots on the fretboard instead of traps. The 1st edition has a slightly different shape and a pointed or florentine cutaway. The new 25th anniversary 140 is a reissue of this first design also. Mine is a 1st edition and it is awesome.. kind of like a thicker SG but with a curly maple top.... ( with a little LP Special mojo thrown in ) It seems really articulate in that the resonate frequency is slightly higher and it just has its own personality. It rocks .. while the 150/157 models provide the classic vintage tone and feel that you'd expect from Kalamazoo. I'd expect the 2nd edition 140's to be similar to a 150 but with a slightly more pronounced midrange. And they do weigh a bit less than the 150. All are exceptional and top quality .. but different.
schundog Posted June 25, 2010 Author Posted June 25, 2010 Nice description, Fred, thanks. I've been eyeing the B code 140 in the classifieds, but it looks just like my Gibson LP Classic, exposed black pickups and all, except for the lack of binding and dots vs traps. I hate to admit that I'm shallow about that kind of thing, but I am! Still quite tempted, though....
