111518 Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 Big difference is the 550 is laminated, 575 carved solid maple.550 also has a maple neck, 575 mahogany (missed edit window) Just speculation, but seems to me, based on Heritage's number system, that the 575 is related to the 175, except of course that it is solid instead of laminated, and the 550 is related to the es-350, which was Gibson's laminated 17" guitar in the late 40s/50s, and survived in the thinline version (350T) into the 60s, and has been reissued several times since.
