nientrung Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 I'm looking for the 6 finger tailpiece (black anodized one). Does anybody know where to buy?
Guest mgoetting Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 I like the looks of them but I don't understand how they affect intonation.
Guest mgoetting Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 Try these guys: WD Music It better do more than just look pretty for $200.
Gitfiddler Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 It better do more than just look pretty for $200. I've mentioned in other thread that I'm a fan of this beautiful and yes, functional tailpiece. It has an effect on string tension as the individual 'fingers' are tightened or loosened. I don't think it has much of an impact on tone, but with instruments, each component adds or detracts something. The Heritage Johnny Smith offered a black version of this tailpiece. I haven't seen any aftermarket ones, but I'm sure they are out there.

It doesn't affect scale (of course), so I don't get the point. I wouldn't know how to adjust the fingers.
nientrung Posted July 18, 2010 Author Posted July 18, 2010 The gold tailpiece is expensive. I'm looking for the black version.

Adjusting the fingers up and down changes the break angle of the string over the bridge, and this has an impact on the tension. Some archtops allowed adjustment of the entire bridge up and down --my Super 400 did, for example, and I think the L-5 has a similar adjustment. The finger tailpiece is specifically designed to allow you to balance the strings. Here's an earlier thread we had about these tailpieces. http://www.heritageownersclub.com/forums/l....php?t2850.html
