Kuz Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 I have a confession to make (pun intended, LOL), lately at church I have been playing guitars other than my Heritages. Sometimes I need a single coil tone (Strat or my Kirn Tele) and sometimes both humbucker and single coil tones (Prs guitars with the coil tap for single coil). BUT today I needed a BIG FAT tasteful, distortion (so I knew it had to be a 150) and yet the for the second song I needed a funky, out of phase rhythm tone (I was thinking what will I do? I want to use the 150, but I don't want to take two guitars for only two songs... albeit for two services....) WELL "GREENY" to the rescue!!!! -Dialed up the huge Humbucker distortion background drone sound that I knew Greeny had, BUT what about song #2? - I went MID position, Magnet-flip, for the funky out-of-phase rhythm part in song #2 and the TONE WAS FROM HEAVEN, LITERALLY!!! I got many rave reviews from the praise band, Pastors, and the congregation! So the moral of the story..... Heritage Guitars NEVER fail to amaze me with their tone and bring the goods, even to Church!!!!
jazzrat Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 I'm with ya. I had a solo on a Lincoln Brewster tune today. Usually bring a strat or g & l Legacy. Brought the 575...sounded huge.
Gitfiddler Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 Big Fat Distortion?? Funky?? We NEVER use those terms in MY church. But I sure wish they would! Keep on praisin', Kuz. Can I get an AMEN?!
jazzrat Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 We played Little Wing for offertory today I thought maybe the neck pickup would be to dark to use but the Fralins are a little brighter and it sounded great.
ronalr Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 I need to join your church Kuz.....BIG FAT tasteful, distortion...and Funky!!!!........Is that the same church James Brown was at in the Blues Brothers movie ? sounds like the Heritage performed religiously
Thundersteel Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 lately at church I have been playing guitars other than my Heritages. Blasphemer!

My church is a bit more "subdued".
Kuz Posted July 26, 2010 Author Posted July 26, 2010 Guys, it's rally not as you think (or as I am describing it, LOL). I'll be honest again and say I don't really listen to contemporary Christian radio that much, but if you get a chance that is what we play. Yes, we have a big organ and sing out of the "Lutheran Book of Worship" most of the time. But about every other week we do 2 or 3 contemporary songs (for two services). Any pop song, contemporary Christian, or what have you has some tasteful overdrive during the chorus to fatten the tone up. It not like I was playing "Black Dog" or "Foxy Lady" ( well actually I did break out in the "foxy Lady" riff during warm-up rehearsal, the drummer chimed in, and we both got "that look" from the keyboardist/band leader!!!!).

golferwave Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 Good choice with Greeny John. Many great tones from those polarity challenged pickups.
schundog Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 I played my Millenium for the first time at church today. For Chris Tomlin's "How Great is our God," arpeggiated/distorted chords went well against the worship leader's acoustic. A couple other songs with slammin' power chords in the chorus, and I was in the zone!! I like the Millie a lot, but I still think I'm more of a 535 man... Millie's prettty bright. I'll let you guys weigh in on it in a couple of weeks!!
212Mavguy Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 Time and a place for everything..."ecclesiastically" speaking. Have never seen as many church related posts on a Sunday EVER... since I started hanging out here. What an interesting coincidence! I just went to a church I had never gone to before this morning, first time to church in months, two congregation members had approached me a week earlier to see if I would try out for the lead guitar player of the combo group. So I went, listened, introduced myself to the fearless music leader, practice is next Tuesday evening. He was either playing playing a strat dirty or an acoustic clean through a POD pedalboard direct into the PA, and the strat's dirty tone was a bit Poddy-bright and thin. So I'm gonna bring one of my Millies, Hilton volume pedal, boutique Bluesbreaker head and semiclosed back 2/12 for some fat Beanotone to serve up. Hopefully I won't get booted out of the building right away. I think that the tones will complement one another very well. Will run a direct out from the attenuator to the soundboard and plan to use the cab as a monitor. The stage is pretty tight spacewise. Got my fingers crossed. (no pun intended)
FredZepp Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 Yes, I have to agree that that out of phase sound is great to add to the humbucker arsenal. It is the one that I use a lot on the 157, love it.
mark555 Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 We don't have a band in our church services, just the organ or grand piano, we are very traditional music wise for the services. However, we have been known to rock the joint midweek in the church hall. (which is where we practice, me and the bass player being members of the church). Glad to see the divine input of a Heritage, truly they are guitars with a soul.....
