peacemaker Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 I've got a big audition coming up. The house amp is a Peavey Valve King VK112. I usually play through an early 70s Fender Twin. Anybody know anything about this model Peavey? How's reverb on it? How would the amp compare with my Twin? Just want to know what to expect . . . Thanks for any input you can offer!
barrymclark Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 I have limited experience with these, but the most immediate impression I got from these is Marshall-ish. Nothing about it said Fender to me. Unfortunately, that is all I have. Maybe someone here has had far more time in on one.
smurph1 Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 I don't have any experience with that particular model, but I have owned several Peavey amps, and have loved all of them..I currently have a Classic 30 which has a fine sounding real spring reverb..Hope that helps..?
FrankV Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 I've got the Peavey Delta Blues 115 and the reverb is real nice. Good luck with the audition.
peacemaker Posted August 18, 2010 Author Posted August 18, 2010 Thanks guys . . . any more advice is welcome!
JeffB Posted August 19, 2010 Posted August 19, 2010 I had the VK100 head. I never got along with it. The clean was just alright but the gain was ratty. I only bought it as a cheap spare amp. Dont expect sonic bliss. The sounds a usable in a pinch.
peacemaker Posted August 25, 2010 Author Posted August 25, 2010 The audition went well. I had some time with the amp before hand to get my head around it. It lacked both the massive bottom and the shimmery highs of my Twin. It also seemed to lack some articulation. The spring reverb was decent, even though I had to turn it up to 7 or so to equal 3 or 4 on my Twin. Still, it had that tube warmth and a nice enough overdrive section. The Boost button on the footswitch was a nice addition. In short, it could have been much, much worse. Not an amp I'd throw down serious money on, but not one I'd really complain about either. It was good. Thanks for the advice, guys! I'll see exactly HOW well the audition went in a few days . . . Here's hoping . . .

barrymclark Posted August 26, 2010 Posted August 26, 2010 Good luck, man! Yeah. Not bad amps by any means but it didn't do much for me either but if I were in your situation, it would have been fine.
peacemaker Posted August 26, 2010 Author Posted August 26, 2010 Thanks for the well-wishes, guys! It'll be a long couple weeks of waiting . . . it felt nice and the people seemed to really like what I brought. We'll see . . .
