Had this coming in the mail from eBay so I decided to go to my local Guitar Center to try the "original" Gibson les paul custom. It was the only one they had and had the 490R in the neck and 498T in the bridge. The sustain was great and the neck was pretty well done, that said, it didn't live up to the $3600 price tag. It played and sounded little better than an old Kramer Stagemaster I bought for $500 in 2004. It also had an ebony board (not sure the body wood). The stagemaster was neck-through and had a little more sustain but was darker sounding, and I like bright sounding which the lp custom did well.

Comparing to the Heritage 157 I have to say I like the heritage feel better(a lot better neck feel/fret job and the look); sustain and tone were very similar, the Heritage IMO was brighter and had a softer attack. However I just got it today, and it has SD 59's in it which fit that sound description better than the 490R 498T combo IMO. Also, the Heritage 157 had some fretting out problems on the 1E string at the 14th and 15th fret, I took it in for rush work at 5starguitars in Hillsboro, OR and they got it playing pretty good in 2 hrs. I prefer the Heritage even though the repair guy didn't sand the frets enough as a 2 step bend on the 1E string at the 15th fret still frets out! (should I take it back tomorrow?)

I scored it used on eBay for $1100, a steal IMO, here are some pictures

Welcome to the forum... great first post...

It's a beauty of a 157 .. antique natural looks fantastic.

It's cool you took the time to do the comparison .

And yes, you should get it playing the way that you like, they need to complete the setup on it....

Yes the price was a steal, it's amazing the axes that Heritage produces...

What do these go for new? I can't believe the quality myself! thanks for the reply!

Is that a Breedlove acoustic sitting next to the Heritage?

I've got one of those myself.

Actually its an Ibanez Acoustic/Electric Zebrawood from the exotic wood series. They are like $500 new now. I got it last x-mas after trying a bunch of guitars in the $400-$600 price range at guitar center. It was $400 on sale then. They sold me it and the hsc for $450. It plays pretty nice and has a dark sound that is smooth to the ears.

Nice score.

You won't have any problem finding someone else to take that off your hands if you don't like it.

you got a great guitar... your lucky i didnt se it on ebay because it would have been mine!!!

Welcome

I bought it within the first 2 hours of the auction lol. I don't think I'll be selling anytime soon, but HOC will be the place I put it up if I do. Right now , however, I'm thinking I want to be buried with it! I'm taking it back to 5 star guitars to see if they will cut me a deal on a re-setup, here goes nothing!
