Guest HRB853370 Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 I love my SG. I wish I had bought one in the 60's when they first came out. They just have a classic rock guitar look about them, just like a Strat has a classic look about it. Think Duane, Angus, Derek........

Hi Will, Yes,when I pulled out that old mag yesterday after years, and gazed upon the S.G.'s,I was stunned too. They do look great. It may be the mists of time have softened my view.I was,in 1962 ,just getting ready to buy a single cut Les Paul, when the model was changed to the S.G. shape.I'd seen a '59 Les Paul Custom, second hand in black, with a gold Bigsby on it in Leeds,U.K. for £160,reserved it,but dared not ask my Dad to sign the hire agreement,so I had to let it go ! Eternal regret. As consolation,I did get an L.P. S.G. Junior, picture from that catalogue enclosed.I'd previously owned a '59 Les Paul Junior, with the rounded double cut,and regretted selling it.The S.G. was very nice, but was traded on to part fund some other guitar. The Melody Maker shown,I still have one from the same era,1963,which I bought second hand in Los Angeles in 1981 for about $ 140.It's a 3/4 size, and sounds & plays great.
