Man, I put a bid up and won this. I had no idea it would happen-I figured it would go well beyond $1700! It looked nice, seller seemed trustworthy, somebody out there tell me if this is a nice guitar and if I scored a good deal! No idea what they sell for new!

Ebony board, those sexy inlays, bound headstock, and my favorite type of finish; Yeah, you done GOOD!! I have no idea what they list for new, either, but you can bet it's a lot more than you paid for what appears to be a mint guitar. Congratulations!

Congratulations ..I was watching that one too...you got a great price and if it is as nice as those pictures ....well you should be a very happy guitar player B)

Nice one..

The list price for a H-550 in 2009 was $ 4230 .. so even with a discount, they are much more than you spent.

And that one is nice.. it should turn out to be a sweet sounding and playing archtop. And Heritage knows how to do archtops properly.

It looks to be in very good condition also.

Congrats...

You did real well!! Firstly, the finish is beautiful. Also, the close up pics of the fret board looks like somebody bought it in 1994 and forgot to play it . . . ever!! The neck is a 3 piece neck, not the standard 5 piece neck. That's significant! Also, I like the fact that the label inside the guitar is the older one that shows the former area code of 616. The tail piece is the older style, which in my opinion is a better tail piece than the "H". If it was my guitar, I would put the ebony insert in the tail piece like it is on the older Golden Eagles and Super Eagles. But, that's just my taste. It's drop dead gorgeous just the way it is. Also, you've got the older Schaller Golden 50's pups. They are sweeeeeeet and mellow. There's no way you're not going to love that guitar. The add on ebay says it's a 1994 . . . . the L serial number says it's a 1995.

I loves me a good 550.

I am sure I will like it. Never owned an archtop before. Now if the UPS guy can just get here while my wife is not home!

Amp suggestions? Do these guitars sound particularly better through certain types of amps? I am sure it is a matter of personal taste just like everything else!

Thanks all. If this guitar does not resonate with me (no pun intended) it will go up on the for sale board here FIRST!

Just guessing here, but I'd think it sound great thru a guitar amp. Pure speculation, tho'. .............. B)

Congratulations! She's a beauty! I hope to be picking up my H550 sometime within the next two weeks.

As far as amps go, I have been playing my archtops through an old Roland JC 77, and the more I play through this amp, the more I like it...really nice clean jazz tones. If you are not looking to play clean, I can't really help (other than to say that I also love my Fender Blues Jr. when playing my solid bodies...might be a little too quiet if you are gigging, but it works great for me in my basment).

What a gorgeous thing. Congrats!

Some 0000 steel wool and maybe a little lemon oil on that fretboard and she'll be ready to.

Sounds like a fantastic guitar in excellent condition. I am sure you will enjoy playing it. Might be good to have it set up professionally with new strings.

Great deal Will, excellent shape and I love the color!

Scored a second Heritage pretty quick did ya now.

Change the strings, clean the frets, board a little polish and it should be ready to play.

Yes a second one in 3 weeks, I am sick aren't I? The Heritage (HGAS) addiction has set in. Now I know I will have to divest one or more of my Strats. I once heard somebody say, "can't have too many guitars"

Thanks all for making me feel good about dropping the dough!

I'd say you did good...a new one would have run you over $2700 or more, so heck yeah!!! Play it like you stole it...LOL

The seller on ebay told me it was his Father's 550, so it must have been pretty special to him and probably hard for him to see it go. Nice to know it came from a one owner family.

By the way, did anybody see the sharp H-550 that just went on the Bay?
